A huge congratulations to Molly Dowe, as she was named this year’s Shawville Fair Ambassador after the competition last week. Molly’s family and friends are so proud of her. Way to go Molly!

The Quyon Men’s Breakfast Club were saddened to lose two of its members over the Civic Holiday long weekend. Phillip Mulligan passed away on Aug. 1 at the age of 92, and Wayne Moyle passed away on Aug. 3 at the age of 80. Both of these gentleman had moved away from Quyon, yet always kept a close tie to the community. They were regular attendees at the Men’s breakfasts that bring together past and president Quyon residents who remain lifelong friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mulligan and Moyle families and all of their friends at this sad time.
Our community was also sorry to learn of the passing of Paul Blackmore on Aug. 5. Paul was the organizer of the Quyon Camp of Champions softball tournament that has been in held in Quyon annually in support of Special Olympics athletes in the Ottawa area. Paul had become well known and loved in Quyon over his many years of running this tournament, and he will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. This year’s tournament, usually held in August, has been cancelled, but the Quyon Camp of Champions looks forward to welcoming everyone back next year for the Paul Blackmore Memorial Softball Tournament in his honour. Deepest condolences to Paul’s family and friends as they grieve.
Belated birthday wishes are going out to Kalyee and Jessica Hamilton, as they celebrated their Sweet 16 on Aug. 6. We also have belated wishes going out to Janice Wallace on the 7th, to Marlee-Jo Harrison on the 8th, and Liam Dowe on the 9th. Happy birthday to Dallas and Rowan Hickey, as they turned one on Aug. 10.

Please note that the Quyon Lions Club’s annual ATV Poker Run that was scheduled for this coming Saturday, Aug. 15th, has unfortunately been cancelled.
Last week, the Diocese of Pembroke announced the temporary shuttering of 10 Catholic churches in the Pontiac, due to a shortage of priests available at this time. They have stressed that that the closures will not be permanent, as they continue to work towards a long-term solution. Fortunately, our local Holy Name of Mary Parish in Quyon will not be included in the closures, and Sunday mass will continue here. That being said, Father Christian Kakule, who has served this area for many years now, has departed from St. Mary’s. Our community bids him a fond farewell and wishes him all the best in his next chapter. Reverend Scott Murray will be the new priest serving the Holy Name of Mary Parish beginning in September, and we look forward to welcoming him to Quyon.
