The Way We Were:

Local news:Saturday evening’s train brought home a number of teachers to spend their summer holidays among relatives.

Miss Potter, B. A , principal of the Academy, left for home on Saturday evening to spend her summer vacation.

The heat of the past week was the most intense that has been experienced for some years past, and much suffering is reported throughout the country, especially in the large cities. In Shawville the mercury ranged from 89 deg. on Monday to 98.5 on Friday, since which date has been somewhat cooler.

Messrs. McCredie & Hodgins, who suffered the loss of their factory last week, desire us to thank the people for their valued assistance in preventing the fire from communicating with their dwellings, which at one time, were in imminent danger of destruction. It is probable that Mr. Hodgins will undertake the re-building of the factory without delay, but on a site more isolated than the old one. This idea is one that will meet with the general approval of our citizens, who have always regarded the factory with a certain amount of alarm, on account of fire.
