Goose shot at farm by poachers: A couple from Bristol are frustrated with poachers in the area.
Back in late April a Canada goose was shot on the front of the property of Phillippe Poirier and Lynn Bergeron’s property.
“We heard shots near our home and we discovered a Canada goose with a bullet wound in one of its wings,” said Bergeron.
They immediately called the Animal Control Centre in Ottawa to take the bird and treat it.
Not only were they concerned about the bird, but about the safety of their three children.
“My children could have been outside playing and could have been shot by one of the poachers,” said Bergeron.
They didn’t know who shot the goose, but someone from the animal control centre came down for a few days to investigate, but did not see or find anything.
The couple were disappointed when they found out that the animal control centre had released the goose recently after it was treated.
“They told us that they would return to our home and release it here,” said Bergeron. “You’re not supposed to separate a goose from its flock.
“I can only hope that it knows where to return to on its own.”
First ever on-site chef course successful: Students of the first ever on-site chef course in Pontiac graduated May 25.
With the collaboration of Emploi Quebec, the Western Quebec School Board (WQSB) and Pine Lodge, in Bristol, the organizations started the first ever on-site chef course in Pontiac.
The course was funded by the three organizations and was specifically provided for the employees of Pine Lodge.
The five students work at Pine Lodge and were trained by Pierre Samson, a chef and instructor with the WQSB, from early April to May 25.
The students received their certificates Friday after they were evaluated on the preparation of a meal.
Linda Thompson, co-owner of Pine Lodge, said that she would like to have another couse done there again.
“It was very beneficial for the business and the employees,” Thompson said.
Lois Thompson, one of the five chef students, said that it was a great course.
“It was an excellent course, but it wasn’t long enough,” said Lois.
