Food poisoning follows wedding reception: The Quebec Police Force, Campbell’s Bay detachment, is investigating a series of poisonings which took place after the Boisvert-Balland wedding in Fort Coulonge last Saturday.
The guests enjoyed a dinner at the Coulonge Inn Hotel and by eleven o’clock at night ten had been admitted to the Pontiac Community Hospital in Shawville with severe stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhea. Another forty members of the wedding party went to Pembroke hospital and another group went to hospitals in Ottawa. Their sickness kept some in hospital for several days.
The QPF has sent samples of food eaten to Ottawa for examination and until these reports are in nobody knows for sure whether it was the turkey, the dressing, or something else.
Jersey Club banquet: The annual banquet and dance of the Shawville Jersey Club was attended by over 200 people including visitors from a distance and many local friends.
Master of Ceremonies for the evening was the president Mr. Don Horner. Arnott Hynes, director to the Quebec Jersey Club, reported on the activities of that Club. Shawville Fair Trophy winners were as follows: Bank of Montreal Trophy for Grand Champion Male went to Barry Draper and Son, Orla Young Trophy for Grand Champion Female went to Willow Hollow Farm, H I Hobbs Trophy went to Willow Hollow Farm, Leonard Horner trophy for Junior Champion to Lloyd Brownlee and Sons, Pontiac House Trophy for Breeders Herd to Lloyd Brownlee and Sons, Shawville Jersey Club 4H Trophy for Champion Jersey Calf to Rickey Younge.
Two herds were awarded Quebec Production Class Leader Certificates, Rensted Farms, Don Reynolds, Quyon and Willow Hollow Farm, Robert Younge and Sons, Shawville.
A past president of the C.J.C.C., Mr Ralph MacKenzie and the new president, Mr Clifton Berry, were greeted. Mr Berry advised the group that, to overcome the problems facing the C.J.C.C., they must all work together. He felt assured that with the support of Wm Reynolds and Opal Carson, he could depend on the Shawville Jersey Club.
