The Way We Were:

Local news: The ratepayers of Campbell’s Bay voted strongly in support of the by-law to provide the village with electric light and power from the Ottawa River Power Co., at Calumet Falls. The location of the proposed line has not yet been settled. The people of Bryson are making an effort to have the line so located that Bryson will be included in the lighting scheme. It would seem like a rather peculiar freak of destiny, if the old county town—which for years has been banking so much on the development of the power within ear-shot of every citizen—should in the long run be served with nothing better than the mere reflection of the lights at the power house.

Potatoes were good crop: Evidently there was a pretty heavy crop of potatoes in this section of the county last Fall, as, notwithstanding the large quantities that have been shipped from here and other stations on the line, during the past three months, the surplus production is still moving, and it is said that quite a large percentage of the crop is still unsold. Last week the G. F. Hodgins’ Co. shipped two cars from McKee station, and are likely to get more from that district. All told, the export of our county’s surplus agricultural products this year has been satisfactory and profitable.

Hockey: In the return match between Campbells Bay and Shawville, at Shawville, on Friday evening last, Campbells Bay defeated the locals by the score of six to five. Although the game was free from rough stuff and very closely contested all the way through, it was, from the spectators’ point of view, the poorest exhibition of hockey staged at the local rink this season. Thos. Shore, of Shawville and Billie Bolam, of Campbells Bay, handled the game.
