The Way We Were:

Local news:Mr. Trueman Tuck has removed his barber shop and Insurance office across the street to the premises lately occupied by Miss Mary Foran as a Millinery Parlor.

We learn that Mr. Clifton N. Woodley, has been notified that he is the successful applicant for the postmastership of Shawville, which became vacant last Summer by the death of Mr. Robert Hobbs, and has since been carried on by Mrs. Hobbs, with Miss Ada Hines and Mr. Lionel Thomson as assistants. The new appointee, Mr. Woodley, is an overseas man, who was captured not long after he took his place in the front line. He spent three years in a German prison camp mining coal, obtaining his release when the war ended.

Where do all the sawlogs—some of them REAL logs, too—come from? This is puzzling a good many people who thought the lumber supply of this district was well-nigh exhausted twenty years ago. It might be well to remark that some of the cut which is finding its way into the local sawmills this winter, would have been better left standing for another ten years.

The curling rink is proving a very popular attraction this Winter, not only to the villagers but to quite a number of the country “old-boys” as well, who are fast learning the art of throwing a dangerous iron. Quite a number of contests have been pulled off and not a few surprises have been sprung on some of the seasoned vets, whose skill has been successfully challenged more than once. In the winter sports line Shawville now holds the top place.
