Local news: Mr. Harry Newham, Mrs. Newham and child are visiting friends in Thorne. Mr. Newham informs us that he has disposed of his store at White Lake and intends knocking around a bit before resuming business.

Mr. D. R. Macfarlane, who spent some time in the Yukon country, and has been home for several months, left again for the gold fields on Thursday, accompanied by his wife and children, who go as far as Vancouver, where they will reside.

Lagrippe has been demoralizing things on the wholesale plan in this locality during the past ten days, and the staff of this journal has not escaped the general devastation wrought. This accounts for the late appearance of our paper and the leaving undone of sundry things which some of our patrons expect. We have been pretty nearly knocked out for this week at least, and it is only by a supreme effort we have managed to scrape ourselves together at all to perform our wonted duty to society. O, that we could escape that pestiferous grippe!!
