The Way We Were:

A little of this and that: Accident of the week . . . At the hockey game the other night when a puck hit the left eye of Lorna Romain, daughter of Constable Romain and a few minutes later another puck clipped the right eye of Dean Young, son of Constable Young.

Game of the week . . . When the Shawville Juniors trounced Renfrew for the first time in six years.

Catch of the week . . . A mouse caught in two traps, brought in by John David Brown. John thinks the mouse got its head caught in one trap and in its struggling flopped on to the second trap, two feet away.

Trip of the week . . . By Charteris’ John Lang, just returned from a trip to Waltham where he visited Reuben Robinson and others and Campbell’s Bay where he saw Harvey Martin and others. John reports Waltham is growing up with a business section much larger than it was when he last visited there, four years ago.

Congratulations . . . To Betty Stewart, nurse at the Pontiac Community Hospital, who has received notice she passed her registered nurse’s examinations.

Free skating: Shawville Rotary Club, being anxious that the younger boys and girls may have a weekly opportunity for skating on the rink, invite all boys and girls of 11 years of age or under to come to Shawville rink each Saturday afternoon from 1.30 to 3.30.

The Rotary club have secured the rink for this period; and the skating is entirely free; and the boys and girls are guests of the Rotary club. Come from 1.30 to 3.30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

The only conditions are 1 – The boys and girls coming must be 11 years of age or under. None over 11 will be allowed on the ice. 2 – There can be no hockey sticks taken on the ice, nor will roughness or profanity be allowed. A member of the Rotary Club will be in attendance each afternoon to see the rules are observed.
