Local news: Friday and Saturday gave this region more snow than we have had for several years at this early date. Looks like an old-time winter say many who remember “the winter of the deep snow.”

The church services on Sunday outside of the village nearly all had to be relinquished on account of the storm. One of our adventurous younger clergymen started out but after an exciting time in the drifts was forced to give it up and return home.

Conflicting rumors have been current in the community regarding the safety of the Rev. R. Warrington, late rector of Portage du Fort, who sailed for Ireland six weeks ago. We are glad to say that those high in authority here know nothing of such accident, and advices from Portage narrate the Reverend gentleman’s safe arrival home. It is safe to say that the story is quite unfounded.

Pembroke had two fires last week—one in the office of the Pembroke Lumber Company, damaging the upper part of the building, and a more serious one which started in a butcher shop owned by Mr. Thos. Murray, and spread to Spellman’s harness shop in the adjoining apartments. The loss incurred in both cases is pretty well covered by insurance.
