Lions And Rotary Give $1,000: Through the joint efforts of the Lions Club of Shawville and the Rotary Club of Shawville, the sum of $1,000 has been handed to officials of Pontiac Community Hospital for the purchase of a new operating table. Each club gave $500. The table, the hydraulic lift type, will be a far cry from the manual lift model now in use. Table and accessories will make it possible for hospital doctors to do all types of surgery.

“More Bridges To Be Built” Pontiac M.L.A. Says At Opening: Surveys are being made for the replacement of the Fort Coulonge and Nicoba bridges, Ray Johnston, MLA for Pontiac, said last Sunday at the official opening of the Charles Ivers Bridge linking Allumette Island and Waltham. Mr. Johnston also intimated that further bridges would be built in Pontiac including one at Breckenridge and one at Bernard Creek.

The new bridge connects the large farming community of Allumette Island with the mainland, filling a vital need and giving speedy access of farm products to their markets. It may also serve as a span of the proposed Interprovincial Bridge across the Ottawa River from the Ontario side, four miles downstream from Pembroke.

The Charles Ivers Lynch Bridge is 490 feet long, 22 feet wide and is of steel and concrete construction. Total cost of the structure was in the vicinity of $200,000.
