The Way We Were:

Jersey Parish Show: The Jersey Parish Show at Shawville Fair this year was judged by Mr. Ron Sharp of Marveleville, Ontario. Each of the three exhibitors took their share of the red ribbons and trophies offered for competition each year.

Barry Draper showed the Grand Champion Bull to win the Bank of Montreal Trophy. He was also Reserve Junior Champion and won the four year old class.

Lloyd E. Brownlee and Sons from Brownline Farms showed the Junior Champion to win the Leonard Horner Trophy and also had the first prize two year old and the first prize dry cow. In the breeders group this exhibit placed first to win the Molson Trophy donated by Pontiac House Hotel.

Willow Hollow Farm (Robert L. Younge & Sons) got a first for the heifer calf class, first in the three year old class, and first in the aged cow class. The Grand Champion cow was “Willow Hollow Cam D. Princess” who won the Orla Young Trophy. This exhibit also won the H. I. Hobbs Trophy for the highest production cow placing first or second in her class and the Pontiac Dairy Trophy for the four best senior females.

The Premier Breeder Banner was won by Brownline Farms and the Premier Exhibitor Banner went to Willow Hollow Farm.

The Eaton Trophy for the best presented exhibit in the cattle barn went to the Jersey herd of Willow Hollow Farm with most of the credit going to Rickey, the junior member of the Younge family. Rick also won four trophies for himself in 4H competition this year. Besides the Jimmy Russell Memorial Trophy which was mentioned in last week’s Equity, he won the MacKechnie Trophy for Grand Champion Showman on Saturday, the Norval Horner Trophy for the highest aggregate score in 4H competition on Saturday and the Shawville Jersey Club Trophy for Champion Jersey calf.
