The Way We Were:

Municipal elections: Everybody is watching with great interest the developments in the new municipality of Pontiac. Wards have been set up and representation for each of these wards will be earnestly contested by a number of people, all anxious to get the amalgamated municipality off to a good start. Such a keen interest in the welfare of the community should result in good municipal government in that part of the County. But good strong and keen councils are also badly needed in all the other twenty one municipalities of this County. Leadership is always needed, and now more than ever, our County needs people who can put public welfare before personal or purely local considerations. Newspapers across Canada are forever trying to direct the attention of their readers to the affairs of governments at all levels, federal, provincial and municipal. THE EQUITY tries too. We don’t like to be forever finding fault with elected officials, so once in a while we do come out with a word of praise. But whatever we do we wish to focus the thinking of the citizens on the parliaments and the councils.

Children’s Program on CHOV: A fresh new idea in children’s programming is being produced by CHOV-TV in Pembroke. A repertory company of local children and special guest children each week, tell jokes, play games, sing songs and have fun with the singing star of the program “Song Farm” Dave Todd. The producer of the show is Mrs. Rosaleen Dickson, managing editor and publisher of THE EQUITY.
