The Way We Were:

Local News: The steam fire engine purchased by Shawville Council in Renfrew, arrived in town on Saturday. It is to be hoped its capabilities for fighting a real fire will not have to be tested out for some time to come. The concert given by the Junior Choral Club in the exhibition hall on Friday evening was much enjoyed by the fairly good-sized audience which attended.

The lawn social held at the Methodist parsonage on Thursday evening last was not favoured with ideal weather for an outdoor entertainment, as conditions were rather chilly for comfort. Nevertheless, there was a fairly good attendance and the program presented was enjoyable throughout.

Disagreeable, showery weather marred to some extent the success of the annual picnic at Campbell’s Bay held last Wednesday under the auspices of the Agricultural Society. The chief sports of the day were trotting races and baseball and whilst the rain was not sufficient to damage the track or impede the horses, it did not conduce to the dishing up of exceptional brilliancy on the ball field. Spectators, for the most part, took advantage of the friendly shelter of automobiles, of which there were scores on the grounds.
