Parc Mont Solitude buds with youth: Parc Mont Solitude is providing young entrepreneurs with homes for their businesses, giving its own business a wider range of tourist attractions.
John and Bernice Brusenbach have taken in Sean Mannion’s rafting company, Adventures Outaouais, Martin Bertrand’s Horizons Kayak School and a paint-ball operation Stephane Pieschke hopes to have running soon.
he Brusenbachs spent five years building the park before opening up for their first season last summer. The park’s 35 acres of developed land features campsites, a group of cabins called “heritage village,” a mini-heritage trail campers can hike or tour on the park’s four-wheeler buggies; an old bus-turned-theatre, a swimming pool, a kids’ playground, mini-golf, shower and toilet facilities.
“It’s young entrepreneurs. They’re going to have the future,” John Brusenbach said.
Fashion for funds: Women of all ages, dressed in the latest fashions from Palmer Boutique and Shawville Shoe, strutted down the catwalk May 8 at the United Church Women’s (UCW) fashion show.
Unit eight of the UCW put the show together to raise money for a new church organ. They came away with $900 in proceeds.
The one-night models sported big name fashions thanks to Myrna Palmer of Palmer Boutique and Marjorie Horner of Shawville Shoe.
Janet McCord, MC of the show, gave a colourful commentary, using phrases like, “here we have Iva. She’s wearing these easy-wear, easy-care pants,” and “Barbara is the picture of spring.”
The models taking part were: Vicki Polson, Sandra Murray, Joan Gray, Evelyn Lamframboise, Margaret McDowell-Rawlins, Iva Armstrong, Barbara Lewis, Ashley Smith, Lorraine Hodgins, Janey MacDougall, Michelle Belsher, Marsha Richardson and Cheryl Younge.
