The Way We Were:

Local News: An invitation was extended to visit Earl Fulford’s sugar cane by Mr. F.W. Schwartz, retired expert, during the Easter holiday.

“In the afternoon the sap started to run and for seven days it never let up, not even at night. It was the best run of sap I have ever seen in my 60 years of making syrup,” said Schwartz.

“The boys had to keep busy to keep up and not let it run out of the buckets,” he stated.

The contract has been let and construction commenced at Quyon of the new school building. The building is intended to serve the consolidated district of Onslow and will do away with the five existing schools.

Contractor is Alex Kilgour of Shawville and the total estimated cost of constructing and equipping is $105,000, part of which will be borne by the province.

All grades up to grade ten will be taught with possible provision in the future for higher grades.
