Gift from the heart: The people of Fort Coulonge opened up their hearts and veins to those in need of blood.
The March 14 Hema Quebec blood donor clinic drew out 191 donors, exceeding their goal of 150.
“We’re really amazed how many people showed up over there,” said ambulance technician Stephane Lauzon.
He said the clinic for Pontiac MRC was originally held in Campbell’s Bay but so many Fort Coulonge residents wanted a clinic, there will be one held in each town in the future.
Thirty volunteers from the Knights of Columbus and Daughters of Isabella and the Lions Club helped make the clinic a success.
Midgets valley champs: The Shawville Midget Pontiacs bounced right back from a game two loss in the valley finals with the Pembroke Kings to claim the championship with a huge 6-0 win.
Still, even with Jordan MacDougall’s three goal performance, the game still didn’t feel like it was theirs until he netted number four.
With the Pontiacs on a 3-0 lead, the Kings got some dangerous offense going but Shawville’s goalie, Greg Atkinson was stopping them with a great performance of his own.
Nic Vowles leaned into a long drive for a 5-0 lead moments after and then Tyler Cluff scored in a scramble in front of the net for the sixth goal.
