The Pontiac Lions Club held its much anticipated Easter Duck Race event this past Saturday. Taking place in Campbell’s Bay, community members gathered under the day’s crisp blue skies to take in the event and celebrate the arrival of Easter.
An annual fundraiser for the club, the event consisted of 500 plastic ducks being . . .
released into the recently thawed water of Lunam’s creek. Once in the water, the ducks floated downstream along the current and into a catch gate that had been placed beforehand. With each duck corresponding to a ticket number that had been purchased prior to the event, prizes were awarded to the ticket holders of the first, second and third ducks to cross the finish line.
Many smiles and a few cheers were present as the winning numbers were announced. Kelly Gautheir took home the first place prize of $500, Marianne Frost was the winner of the second place $200 prize and Maureen Moore won the third place prize of $100.
Pontiac Lions Club president, Terry Frost, said that the event was one of the clubs primary fundraisers and that it has become a fixture within the community over the years.
“We like to give back to the community,” said Frost. “We’ve made it into a major fundraiser for us and it is also a chance for the community to get together.”
In addition to the main attraction of the duck race, an Easter egg hunt was also held. Hamburgers, hot dogs and beverages were available for purchase to help supplement the club’s earnings.
