The Way We Were:

Local News: A record catch for Pontiac County and a fish story that will be hard to beat was the large northern pike which was reeled in at Norway Bay by Garnett Wiggins last Sunday. The monster catch weighed over twenty pounds.

One of the centres for the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the diocese was St. Paul’s Anglican, Shawville, when a capacity crowd that overflowed the church, guild room and lawn were present. A public address system under the supervision of John Howard enabled those outdoors to take part in the service.

The May meeting of Elmside Womens Institute was held at the home of Mrs. Erwin Laughren with ten members present. Refreshments were served by the hostess and a social hour followed.

On May 24, some 115 Cubs Scouts and Rovers formed up in Parade Circle and Horseshoe formation for Flag Break and the King. These boys had come from Bryson, Campbell’s Bay and Waltham to join with the Shawville group for the first Pontiac District Rally.

Fire which broke out in the boiler house during the lunch hour destroyed a sawmill at Fort Coulonge last Thursday, owned by Joseph Lacroix.
