George St-Pierre a servi au sein du service d’incendie d’Otter Lake durant la majeure partie de sa vie d’adulte. De 1989 jusqu’\u00e0 son d\u00e9c\u00e8s en ao\u00fbt 2024, il s’est engag\u00e9 \u00e0 aider ses voisins de toutes les mani\u00e8res possibles, m\u00eame apr\u00e8s qu’il soit tomb\u00e9 malade. <\/p>\n

Samedi, cet engagement envers sa communaut\u00e9 a \u00e9t\u00e9 honor\u00e9 lors d’une petite c\u00e9r\u00e9monie organis\u00e9e par le service d’incendie, au cours de laquelle son num\u00e9ro de pompier, le 8, a \u00e9t\u00e9 retir\u00e9 de l’usage.<\/p>\n

\u00ab C’est pour prolonger la vie du pompier. Ainsi, bien que George soit d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9, il vit toujours parmi nous \u00bb, a expliqu\u00e9 Ronnie Vadneau, chef du service d’incendie d’Otter Lake. <\/p>\n

\u00ab C’est juste une fa\u00e7on d’honorer les membres pour leur abn\u00e9gation envers leur communaut\u00e9. Vous \u00eates, sans aucun doute, toujours de garde. Alors, il est toujours de garde, jusqu’\u00e0 aujourd’hui. Apr\u00e8s aujourd’hui, nous ferons le dernier appel, et ce sera son dernier appel. \u00bb <\/p>\n

Rodney Vadneau, le p\u00e8re de Ronnie, a \u00e9t\u00e9 chef du service pendant 47 ans. <\/p>\n

Lorsqu’on lui a demand\u00e9 comment \u00e9tait St-Pierre en tant que pompier, Vadneau a r\u00e9pondu \u00ab grincheux, rus\u00e9 comme un diable, il enfreignait toutes les r\u00e8gles, mais j’aimais bien le petit gars. Il \u00e9tait bon. Il \u00e9tait l\u00e0 quand on avait besoin de lui. Il \u00e9tait toujours l\u00e0. \u00bb <\/p>\n

La c\u00e9r\u00e9monie s’est d\u00e9roul\u00e9e au domicile de Julie St-Pierre, la fille de George, o\u00f9 les pompiers se sont r\u00e9unis avec la famille et des amis proches pour reconna\u00eetre ses ann\u00e9es de service. <\/p>\n

Julie a \u00e9voqu\u00e9 le moment, il y a 16 ans, o\u00f9 son p\u00e8re avait aid\u00e9 \u00e0 sauver la vie de Larry Dubeau. Dubeau \u00e9tait dans le bois un jour d’hiver lorsqu’un arbre tombant l’a renvers\u00e9, lui a bris\u00e9 le dos et l’a laiss\u00e9 \u00e0 peine conscient. <\/p>\n

Comme le raconte Crystal, la fille de Larry, George, \u00e0 66 ans, \u00ab a attrap\u00e9 une bonbonne d’oxyg\u00e8ne et a guid\u00e9 la bande de pompiers extraordinaires (c’\u00e9taient tous des hommes \u00e0 l’\u00e9poque) \u00e0 travers le long et difficile chemin dans le bois, pour aller voir mon p\u00e8re. \u00bb Larry a ensuite \u00e9t\u00e9 sorti du bois et transport\u00e9 d’urgence \u00e0 l’h\u00f4pital. <\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s d’autres remarques et souvenirs partag\u00e9s par le service d’incendie, le dernier appel a \u00e9t\u00e9 lu, comme \u00e0 la radio. <\/p>

Julie s’est dite reconnaissante des soins que le service, qui compte maintenant deux de ses fr\u00e8res et aussi son fils, a montr\u00e9 \u00e0 son p\u00e8re. <\/p>\n

\u00ab C’est tr\u00e8s sp\u00e9cial, parce qu’il \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s impliqu\u00e9 dans la communaut\u00e9. Nous le savions, mais de voir d’autres personnes le reconna\u00eetre . . . mon c\u0153ur est simplement rempli, et je suis reconnaissante et fi\u00e8re de savoir qu’il \u00e9tait aim\u00e9 \u00bb, a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9. <\/p>\n

\u00ab Mon p\u00e8re ne se souciait pas de la fa\u00e7on dont il s’habillait. C’\u00e9tait toujours un homme de terrain. Il disait, \u00ab Je sais qui je suis et je suis l\u00e0 pour prendre soin des gens et les aider. \u00bb Il \u00e9tait toujours de ce genre \u00e0 aider. Nous n’aimons pas \u00eatre reconnus pour ces choses, parce que nous voulons simplement faire cela.
