L’\u00c9glise pentec\u00f4tiste Bethel de Shawville a c\u00e9l\u00e9br\u00e9 son 100e anniversaire durant le week-end. Le samedi, elle a organis\u00e9 une rencontre communautaire dans la salle communautaire de l’\u00e9glise, suivie d’un banquet aux terrains de la foire de Shawville, et le dimanche, elle a tenu un service comm\u00e9moratif sp\u00e9cial.<\/p>\n

La rencontre du samedi fut anim\u00e9e, rassemblant des paroissiens anciens et nouveaux, venus de pr\u00e8s et de loin, pour une c\u00e9l\u00e9bration d\u00e9contract\u00e9e et un coup d’envoi. Par la suite, le banquet a r\u00e9uni quelque 130 personnes et s’apparentait \u00e0 une tr\u00e8s grande f\u00eate conviviale o\u00f9 les salutations \u00e9taient \u00e9chang\u00e9es et r\u00e9-\u00e9chang\u00e9es entre tous les participants.<\/p>\n

Le micro ouvert a vu d\u00e9filer vagues apr\u00e8s vagues d’histoires et de t\u00e9moignages joyeux, et parfois \u00e9mouvants, partag\u00e9s par les membres de la communaut\u00e9, les anciens dirigeants de l’\u00e9glise et les visiteurs.<\/p>\n

Le dimanche matin, le pasteur Edwin Valles a donn\u00e9 le ton au service \u00e0 venir en s’inspirant des exp\u00e9riences de la veille.<\/p>\n

\u00ab La nuit derni\u00e8re \u00e9tait incroyable \u2014 nous avons pass\u00e9 un excellent moment, un excellent d\u00eener, nous avons parl\u00e9 de choses pass\u00e9es, nous avons chant\u00e9, nous avons pleur\u00e9, nous avons partag\u00e9 \u00bb, a-t-il dit.<\/p>\n

Et comme si cela ne suffisait pas pour ouvrir l’invitation \u00e0 poursuivre la c\u00e9l\u00e9bration, il a continu\u00e9.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Au cas o\u00f9 vous ne l’auriez pas remarqu\u00e9, c’est le dimanche de la Pentec\u00f4te. J’ai \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9lev\u00e9 dans la Pentec\u00f4te, et je n’ai jamais connu la Pentec\u00f4te comme \u00e9tant silencieuse et mod\u00e9r\u00e9e. Et donc, nous allons commencer par un chant. \u00bb<\/p>\n

\u00c0 partir de l\u00e0, les deux heures de service suivantes ont offert une combinaison anim\u00e9e de musique, de sermon et d’\u00e9critures, avec un fort accent sur le pouvoir de la musique et des hymnes.<\/p>\n

Judy Hines Chretien a poursuivi le th\u00e8me avec un tour \u00e0 l’orgue, et avant de se lancer dans The Goodness Of God<\/em>, elle a pris un moment pour offrir une perspective personnelle et tr\u00e8s r\u00e9elle sur ce que l’\u00e9glise signifie pour la communaut\u00e9.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Je suis venue \u00e0 cette \u00e9glise quand j’\u00e9tais une petite fille. Je me suis mari\u00e9e dans cette \u00e9glise et ma m\u00e8re a eu son service fun\u00e9raire dans cette \u00e9glise. Elle a beaucoup de souvenirs pour moi \u00bb, a-t-elle dit, offrant un aper\u00e7u du r\u00f4le essentiel que l’\u00e9glise a jou\u00e9 dans sa vie.<\/p>

\u00c9taient \u00e9galement pr\u00e9sents, offrant une perspective l\u00e9g\u00e8rement plus hi\u00e9rarchique, les surintendants adjoints du district du Qu\u00e9bec et de l’Est de l’Ontario des Assembl\u00e9es de la Pentec\u00f4te du Canada (APDC). Les r\u00e9v\u00e9rends John Ippolito et David Blakely ont tous deux profit\u00e9 de l’occasion pour f\u00e9liciter l’assembl\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

\u00ab En arrivant, j’ai vu des voitures jusqu’aux extr\u00e9mit\u00e9s du stationnement et j’ai \u00e9t\u00e9 impressionn\u00e9 par l’engagement que vous avez envers cette \u00e9glise, que vous soyez toujours ici dans cette communaut\u00e9 ou que vous soyez revenu pour ce week-end \u00bb, a dit Blakely.<\/p>\n

Le message sp\u00e9cial du service a \u00e9t\u00e9 prononc\u00e9 par le pasteur invit\u00e9 Ben Kjiersdam, et il a captiv\u00e9 l’attention de tous en parlant du r\u00f4le de l’\u00e9glise.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Notre culture a radicalement chang\u00e9 \u00bb, a-t-il dit, faisant r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 des statistiques qu’il avait obtenues.<\/p>\n

\u00ab En 1957, 61 % des Canadiens assistaient \u00e0 l’\u00e9glise chaque semaine. Aujourd’hui, ce nombre est plus proche de 22 % ou moins. \u00bb<\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous devons faire le pont, nous devons essayer de nouvelles choses \u00bb, a-t-il poursuivi, \u00ab et nous assurer que Shawville sache que nous existons plus que juste en tant que b\u00e2timent.
