Des b\u00e9n\u00e9voles ont travaill\u00e9 fort au cours des derniers mois \u00e0 pr\u00e9parer un espace dans le centre communautaire de Thorne qui servira de biblioth\u00e8que municipale.<\/p>\n

Les contribuables de Thorne avaient acc\u00e8s \u00e0 la Biblioth\u00e8que Shawville-Clarendon jusqu’au d\u00e9but de cette ann\u00e9e, lorsque le conseil a vot\u00e9 de ne pas poursuivre le service en raison des co\u00fbts li\u00e9s \u00e0 l’utilisation continue de l’installation.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Quand nous les avons approch\u00e9s, tout d’un coup, c’est pass\u00e9 [ . . . ] \u00e0 10 000 $ parce qu’ils avaient besoin de mises \u00e0 jour \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 la mairesse de Thorne, Karen Daly Kelly.<\/p>\n

Thorne, qui utilisait la Biblioth\u00e8que Shawville-Clarendon depuis au moins 13 ans, a vot\u00e9 lors de sa r\u00e9union du conseil de mars de cr\u00e9er sa propre biblioth\u00e8que communautaire.<\/p>\n

En cons\u00e9quence, Thorne n’a pas pay\u00e9 ses frais, un montant dont la biblioth\u00e8que a besoin pour son entretien normal, selon le maire de Shawville, Bill McCleary. \u00ab Nous estimions que tous ceux qui utilisent devraient partager les co\u00fbts \u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/p>\n

La directrice g\u00e9n\u00e9rale de Thorne, Jessica M\u00e9nard, a \u00e9crit dans un courriel que le conseil esp\u00e8re qu’une nouvelle biblioth\u00e8que \u00e0 Thorne sera plus rentable comparativement \u00e0 l’entente pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Notre conseil a estim\u00e9 que ce montant \u00e9tait trop \u00e9lev\u00e9 et a pris la d\u00e9cision d’investir \u00e0 moindre co\u00fbt dans la cr\u00e9ation d’une biblioth\u00e8que locale qui servira directement notre communaut\u00e9 \u00bb, a-t-elle \u00e9crit.<\/p>\n

\u00ab La nouvelle biblioth\u00e8que de Thorne sera int\u00e9gr\u00e9e au R\u00e9seau BIBLIO, donnant aux r\u00e9sidents un acc\u00e8s en ligne \u00e0 une vaste s\u00e9lection de livres et de ressources. Le conseil explore \u00e9galement les possibilit\u00e9s d’organiser des activit\u00e9s et des \u00e9v\u00e9nements communautaires par le biais de la biblioth\u00e8que, en faisant non seulement un espace de lecture, mais aussi un lieu de rassemblement et d’apprentissage. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Un groupe de b\u00e9n\u00e9voles \u00e0 Thorne, dont des conseillers et des membres de la communaut\u00e9 industrieux, ont travaill\u00e9 \u00e0 transformer l’espace en biblioth\u00e8que. Ils ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 re\u00e7u des milliers de livres, les triant et les classant par ordre alphab\u00e9tique sur les \u00e9tag\u00e8res.<\/p>\n

Mme Kelly a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 \u00eatre reconnaissante pour les nombreuses donations de la communaut\u00e9, \u00e9tant donn\u00e9 que la municipalit\u00e9 n’a pas budg\u00e9tis\u00e9 les co\u00fbts li\u00e9s \u00e0 l’exploitation d’une biblioth\u00e8que et travaille donc avec un budget limit\u00e9 pour la mettre en marche.<\/p>

\u00ab Notre budget a \u00e9t\u00e9 plut\u00f4t serr\u00e9 en raison de diff\u00e9rents co\u00fbts pour le service d’incendie, ce qui fait une diff\u00e9rence quant \u00e0 ce que nous pouvons faire \u00bb, a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9, ajoutant que les conseillers travaillent avec des mat\u00e9riaux donn\u00e9s pour mettre la biblioth\u00e8que sur pied et la faire fonctionner.<\/p>\n

Pendant que ces travaux sont en cours, la soixantaine d’utilisateurs de Thorne qui avaient auparavant acc\u00e8s \u00e0 la Biblioth\u00e8que Shawville-Clarendon ne peuvent plus le faire, et doivent attendre que Thorne ouvre la sienne.<\/p>\n
