La Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 historique de Bristol (Qu\u00e9bec) a ouvert grand les portes du Centre communautaire Jack Graham, mercredi, pour c\u00e9l\u00e9brer 30 ans de collecte et de documentation, d’abord de l’histoire de Norway Bay et de ses environs, avant d’\u00e9largir ses efforts et de changer de nom en 2024 pour se concentrer sur l’ensemble de la municipalit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

L’invitation \u00e9tait vaste et la r\u00e9ponse, retentissante. La pr\u00e9sidente de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9, Nancy Crain, rayonnait devant l’affluence.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous sommes enchant\u00e9s du succ\u00e8s de l’\u00e9v\u00e9nement \u00bb, a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9. \u00ab Nous avons fait un effort concert\u00e9 pour annoncer la f\u00eate du 30e anniversaire autant que possible, et nous esp\u00e9rions un grand groupe. Cependant, nous n’avions aucune id\u00e9e du nombre de personnes qui viendraient. Donc, d’avoir environ 125 personnes parmi nous, nous sommes aux anges! \u00bb<\/p>\n

Le centre communautaire \u00e9tait rempli de mur \u00e0 mur, toutes les chaises \u00e9tant occup\u00e9es et les participants suppl\u00e9mentaires se tenant en p\u00e9riph\u00e9rie.
Des deux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de la salle, des expositions pr\u00e9sentaient une petite fraction de la collection de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9, offrant l’occasion \u00e0 la fois d’informer les participants sur les efforts de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 et d’inviter d’autres personnes \u00e0 contribuer \u00e0 l’histoire grandissante en cours d’\u00e9laboration.
\u00ab Pouvoir faire en sorte que nos invit\u00e9s voient une s\u00e9lection de nos plus de 300 classeurs historiques, aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de courtepointes antiques locales et d’une bible de l’Association communautaire de Bristol, \u00e9tait merveilleux \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Crain.<\/p>\n

L’\u00e9v\u00e9nement a eu une atmosph\u00e8re de f\u00eate d\u00e8s le d\u00e9part avec la musicienne locale bien connue Gail Gavan sur sc\u00e8ne, agissant \u00e0 la fois comme divertissement et ma\u00eetresse de c\u00e9r\u00e9monie. Gavan \u00e9tait accompagn\u00e9e de son amie et musicienne Sherry Fitzpatrick, et ensemble, leur \u00e9nergie d\u00e9bordante et leur joie ont fait se lever les participants sur des pistes de danse improvis\u00e9es partout dans la salle.<\/p>\n

\u00c9taient pr\u00e9sents pour reconna\u00eetre l’accomplissement la pr\u00e9f\u00e8te de la MRC de Pontiac, Jane Toller, et le maire de Bristol, Brent Orr. Les deux faisaient partie int\u00e9grante des c\u00e9l\u00e9brations.<\/p>\n

D\u00e8s 1995, gr\u00e2ce aux efforts de Mary Gamble Calvert et \u00e0 sa vision de collecter et de comm\u00e9morer l’histoire de Norway Bay, la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 historique de Norway Bay a pris son envol. Depuis lors, la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 a \u00e9volu\u00e9 et s’est d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e, a r\u00e9sist\u00e9 \u00e0 l’attrition caus\u00e9e par les d\u00e9fis de la pand\u00e9mie et se pr\u00e9sente maintenant sous une nouvelle forme, celle de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 historique de Bristol (Qu\u00e9bec), se concentrant sur l’ensemble de la municipalit\u00e9, du lac Moffat au nord jusqu’\u00e0 la rivi\u00e8re des Outaouais au sud.<\/p>\n

La soci\u00e9t\u00e9 historique a pour ambition non seulement de poursuivre le travail qu’elle a accompli, mais aussi d’\u00e9largir ses efforts en collaboration avec d’autres soci\u00e9t\u00e9s et d’encourager les membres de la communaut\u00e9 \u00e0 partager leurs propres histoires.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous invitons tous les membres de la communaut\u00e9 de Bristol \u00e0 cr\u00e9er un classeur ou \u00e0 ajouter des \u00e9l\u00e9ments \u00e0 un classeur existant. Ces classeurs refl\u00e8tent l’histoire et les \u00e9v\u00e9nements actuels li\u00e9s aux maisons, chalets, fermes et familles de la municipalit\u00e9 \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Crain. \u00ab Collectivement, ils repr\u00e9sentent notre histoire. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Au-del\u00e0 des familles et des adresses, et il y a plusieurs d\u00e9cennies, des b\u00e9n\u00e9voles ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 rechercher, collecter et archiver des informations, y compris des photos, des histoires, des coupures de journaux et plus encore, offrant une panoplie d’informations sur la vie communautaire.<\/p>

Ces bribes d’informations sont maintenant largement stock\u00e9es dans les classeurs historiques mentionn\u00e9s par Crain et il y a des ambitions de num\u00e9riser la collection, la rendant ainsi plus accessible \u00e0 un public plus large.<\/p>\n

La c\u00e9l\u00e9bration a \u00e9t\u00e9 compl\u00e9t\u00e9e par un large \u00e9ventail de grignotines et de rafra\u00eechissements fournis par les membres de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9, faisant en sorte que l’\u00e9v\u00e9nement ressemblait beaucoup \u00e0 un barbecue familial \u00e9largi, ce qui, dans la plus romantique des id\u00e9es, est probablement ce que signifie partager une histoire : nous sommes ensemble dans cette histoire.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
